I first considered this knife years ago, when it was launched. It kept coming back to mind, but I always ruled it out for two reasons: the use of the simplest, most rust-prone carbon steel, and that at a high price too, plus the aggressive jimping. I took a chance now that the steel is much better. 154CM seems to be a further development of D2, with decent toughness, good edge retention and good corrosion resistance, further improved by the coating. I’m glad I did; it’s a fine knife. My first impression was that it’s massive. It feels heavier than the TOPS HOG 4.5 and the Brakimo, both substantial knives in their own right. The BOB’s handle is considerably wider, which adds weight, but it sits nicely in the hand, and the balance point is right under the index finger. That makes the knife nimble and easy to use. I love the “scandivex” grind (looks like a scandi but is convex): made by hand, no doubt, and very usable for woodworking. Fit in the kydex sheath is perfect, yet deployment is easy using the clip as a thumb rest. Nice ferro rod too, to be used with the notch on the handle. Indestructible, well designed (even the jimping isn’t too bad), excellent fit and finish. Recommended.
