A cord around my neck does not seem like a pleasant idea to me, because I am always afraid it will catch on something and yank my neck, or worse... On the other hand, it can sometimes be handy to simply have something around your neck. This one has a safety clasp that is sturdy enough not to come undone too quickly, but not so tight that you would be strangled by it, as far as I can judge. In any case, it is fairly easy to unfasten with two hands. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can press to make it release even more easily; opening the clasp really does take some force. So for me it is a perfectly good cord for hanging my things from. I would have preferred a detachable section with a click clasp, as that would have been a little more convenient. But of course I already knew beforehand that this one does not have that, so with that expectation it is absolutely fine.
