Kindling Cracker
The Kindling Cracker is the easiest and safest way to split wood and make firewood. No axe, no sharp knives, just this Kindling Cracker and a hammer. This means you no longer have to work with sharp tools. It was made in Australia from one piece of cast iron and therefore rock-solid. If you take good care of it, it will last for generations.
Splitting wood without an axe with Kindling Cracker
Kindling Cracker log splitters allow you to split wood safely thanks to the fixed blade inside the ring, which is kept at a safe distance from your hands. Because the wood remains stable in the ring and you work from above with a controlled tap, you retain a lot of control whilst splitting. Even wet or uneven wood splits effortlessly, while the effort remains low. Perfect for beginners who still find it difficult to split wood properly.
Kindling Crackers are cast in Australia from a single piece of cast iron. That makes them strong, durable and suitable for intensive use. Thanks to the design with no moving parts, they require very little maintenance. It is good to know, however, that cast iron can rust. You can easily protect the Kindling Cracker with beeswax, a steel brush or a new coat of paint. The blade does not need to be extremely sharp to split well, but it is easy to touch up with a metal file.
Are you considering a Kindling Cracker as a smart alternative to traditional splitting axes? If so, you’ll be getting a safe and user-friendly solution for splitting kindling. Alongside Fiskars splitting axes, the Kindling Cracker is also a strong choice for those who want to work quickly, in a controlled way and comfortably.

History of Kindling Cracker
The Kindling Cracker originated in New Zealand as a school project by Ayla, who was 13 at the time. In her cold hometown, firewood was essential, but chopping it with an axe remained risky. She came up with a safer alternative: a cast-iron ring with a fixed blade, designed for hammering the wood onto the blade. The idea proved to be both innovative and safe. Following successful prototypes, the design went on to become a product loved worldwide. Production moved to Australia, where the Cracker is still made from a single piece of cast iron. The design has won several awards and is used in more than fifty countries. A simple school project became an indispensable tool for anyone wanting to make kindling quickly and safely.
