You’ll find the best woodworking saws here. Using a good saw is very important when you are woodworking. A good woodworking saw will allow you to cut faster, more evenly and with less effort. Additionally, your project will look neater. Thanks to the fine teeth and straight cut, it is very easy to make straight and precise cuts. With correct use, you won't even have to sand the wood afterwards! Perfect for making the finest furniture and tightest wood joints.

Will you choose a sturdy, single-sided woodworking saw? Or would you rather choose a double-sided Ryoba with double serration, which allows you to cut either with the grain or perpendicular to it? Whichever you choose, with a woodworking saw your DIY woodworking project will look perfect.

How to choose the best saw

Will you choose a sturdy, single-sided woodworking saw, or something completely different? There are hand saws, folding saws, and pull saws; each with their own techniques and purposes. A saw is generally much safer than an axe, especially for the less experienced outdoor enthusiast or DIYer. It’s well worth investing some time choosing the right saw.

To help you find the saw that suits you best, we made a nice overview for you.

Japanese saw

Japanese saws, or pull saws, are perfect for precise cutting and wood working. They cut on the pulling stroke, which offers more control and a thinner cut. Ideal for detailed work, such as making wood joints.

Keyhole saw

Keyhole saws are used for cutting small, often awkward shapes and holes in various materials, particularly in tight spaces. Think of cutting through thick planks before moving on to finer tasks, trimming beams to size, or making quick cuts during renovation work. Its sturdy blade and coarse teeth make this saw strong, fast, and able to handle heavy-duty work.

Fretsaw

For creative or delicate sawing tasks, such as cutting shapes, patterns or figures in thin wood or plastic, the fret saw is ideal. Thanks to its narrow blade, you can make very tight curves that wouldn’t be possible with a standard saw. It's commonly used in woodworking, model making or when creating decorative elements and DIY projects.

Backsaw

The backsaw is a hand saw with an enforced 'spine'. This keeps the blade nice and straight while cutting. Ideal for use with a mitre box and for fine woodworking. Think of tasks like cutting skirting boards or making precise joints.

Key terms

Pay attention to the 'TPI' when choosing: the higher this number, the finer the serrations. 'TPI' stands for 'Teeth Per Inch'. The kerf refers to the width of the cut the saw makes. For fine work, choose a high TPI and a narrow kerf; for heavy-duty work, the opposite applies.

Maintenance

Keep the saw clean and dry. Store it in a dry place and replace or sharpen the saw blade when necessary. This keeps your saw in optimal condition and safe to use.
