 ## Ochsenkopf OX 15 H-1007 axe head

 The axe head is made from top-quality steel. From the cutting edge to the eye the blade is even, thin and carefully forged and hardened. The result is a cutting edge that retains its sharpness well, the risk of breakage is significantly reduced and the life is extended. If the cutting edge is professionally sharpened there is no need to harden it again. Even at low temperatures it remains possible to use this axe on all types of hardwood.

 ## Ochsenkopf OX 15 H-1007 axe handle

 The handle is made from a type of top-quality wood: Hickory wood. This North-American type of wood is tough and won't break easily. Perfect for absorbing blows without breaking.

 The triple clamp guarantees a safe connection between axe head and handle.

 ## Maintenance Ochsenkopf axe

 The right maintenance extends the life of your axe. For that reason you should always correctly store your tools. A storage place that is too dry will dry out the handle. However, a storage place that is too humid will make the handle swell which could, in time, damage the fibres of the wood. If you are planning to store your axe for a longer period of time it is wise to protect the cutting surface from rust. All you have to do is apply a little bit of oil or fat on the cutting surface. Afterwards protect the edge with, for instance, a sheath and you are good to go.

Ten einde een reeks bosbijlen intensief te testen bestelde ik ook deze Iltis 'Canada' (1000gr) van Ochsenkopf. Uit de doos oogt de bijl mooi, en komt alvast met een foedraal. De vouw werd duidelijk bol aangezet en loop mooi over in de wang die pas ver naar achter vlak doorloopt. een pluspunt wat mij betreft.
Bij nadere inspectie blijkt de bijl echter niet slagklaar, en de bolling van vouw zit te stomp (>27°) en de (primaire) snede is onvoldoende scherp. Ook de steel is te dik en verdient -letterlijk- verfijning. Hier mocht de afwerking wat mij betreft de lat hoger liggen, en gerust enkele euro's bijtellen. 
Na wat raspwerk van de steel en bijstellen van de vouw en snede, levert deze bosbijl goede prestaties tijdens zowel onttakken, verdelen van de stam al vellen van kleinere diameters. De Iltis 'Canada' kan zich meten met de andere bosbijlen in dit genre. De snede houdt goed. Benieuwd wat de toekomst verder zal brengen!
